The drive from Ashburton to Lake Clearwater takes about 1 hour, covering roughly 75km inland through Mt Somers and into the Ashburton Lakes area, with the final access road to the lake being unsealed, so allow extra time for careful driving on gravel surfaces.
COURSE CHANGE
6-Hour Race
Competitors must not collect Checkpoints 12 and 13.
Checkpoints 12 and 13 are cancelled and will not be included in the course.
9-Hour Course Change
After completing the kayak stage, teams must ride directly to RTA / RTA2 (Boundary Creek Hut).
From RTA (Boundary Creek Hut), teams must not collect Checkpoints 9, 10, 11, or 12.
Boundary Creek is running too high and these sections are unsafe.
Checkpoints 9, 10, 11, and 12 are cancelled and are not part of the race.
Teams must collect only Checkpoints 13, 14, and 15 from RTA.
From RTA (Boundary Creek Hut), teams must bike to RTA1 and collect Checkpoints 6, 7, and 8.
9-hour teams must depart RTA1 on hike stage by 5:00 pm to remain on the full course.
Note: Boundary Creek Hut is labelled as RTA on Map 2 and RTA2 on Map 1. This is simply an error, both labels refer to the same location, Boundary Creek Hut.
